Matador Happier Hour

Who's craving some delicious authentic Mexican cuisine? Cause we are! We're at Matador found in Portland, Oregon.

AND it's happy hour.

We went with chips and Salsa because who dosen't love chips, and Salsa? They were fab.

The chips were fresh and still warm. (My fave) The salsa was very fresh! We enjoyed the salsa very much. They incorporated the perfect amount of Cilantro and spiciness to create a mouthwatering appetizer. May I add, these were not on the house. You do have to order and pay for them. But they were definitely worth it.

Seth couldn't pass up tacos, so he ordered one of Each.

Here's how they went down.

Carnitas- "The carnitas taco was pretty decent. Fairly dry, but cooked very well and had plenty of flavor. I think this one was my second to last favorite."

Shredded Chicken- "This one was not really out of the ordinary. It had a nice flavor similar to the rest of the tacos. The only thing I would have changed about this taco would be that I could have used a little more kick of spiciness, but it definitely was not disappointing."

Al Pastor- "This taco was a little odd, the meat had a texture that I wasn't expecting. There was also pineapple in it which went well with the texture of the meat and gave it a good tangy sweetness."

Chorizo- "This taco was the most greasy but it had the traditional Mexican flavor associated with chorizo. It wasn't a surprise that this taco was pretty tasty. Probably our third favorite."

Braised Beef- "The braised beef taco was awesome. They gave me a decent amount of meat on the taco and I was able to get a good flavor from it. It was decently mild, but still very good. It almost had a beef jerky taste. It had a nice tender texture that went well on a taco. Easily the best taco that we tasted. Each taco was served on a authentic corn tortilla with cilantro, onion, and a choice of lime juice which are the most important things to have on a REAL taco. Matador definitely met our expectations of mexican authenticity."

Now for my beautiful dish.

Tortilla Chicken Soup.

When my dish was brought out it was beautiful. Usually I don't go for soup as my main dish, but I couldn't resist the warmth! We had a long, cold day there in Portland. And this was just what I needed.

The soup had chicken, grilled corn, avacado (yes in the soup), green chili's, onion, cilantro, and tortilla strips on top. They didn't short you on the amount of chicken, even though there was so many things going on. Nothing seemed out numbered or overbearing. It had just enough spice and warmth to make any belly a happy one. I would definitely order this again.

The tasty team would love to go back for more tasty mexican dishe's. Matador definitely passed our Taste Test.

Thanks for the good food Matador!

Till next time,
Yours truly,
Tasty

Roosters, it's an Ohio thing!

We are so proud to be from Ohio for so many reasons, and Roosters being one of them!  Roosters is a restaurant that only 'Ohioans' or Ohio visitors know about. It's not a five star fancy schmansy restaurant, just a tasty and fun place to eat at on a weekend or after a long days work. The famous slogan really speaks for itself "A fun, casual, joint", but it doesn't happen to mention the delicious food they have available!  We are regular Rooster customers, we usually go a couple of times a month. We usually stick with our favorites from the menu, but you really can't go wrong with anything they have to offer. Whether it's the loaded nachos, a burger, or their tender boneless wings dipped in your choice of TOP OF THE LINE wing sauce, you wont be disappointed. Most of the time we go with the boneless wings drenched in tangy sweet Thai chili sauce. The quality of the meat is unbeatable, but the big kicker for us is the sauce. The sweet

Amorino has the Gelato

Oh gelato, you make me smile, especially in the form of a beautiful rose. Yes, you read that correctly, gelato in the shape of a rose. You can find this so called rose shaped gelato at Amarino in Chicago. After hearing about this place, I HAD to add it to our itinerary while we were back in the Windy City. Amarino is downtown, and we didn’t have that much trouble finding parking. We went later in the afternoon; I would say around 5 p.m. and found Amarino to be especially empty. When you enter the double sliding doors (cool touch) you will be right in front of their gelato selections. They have a wide selection. We came for the rose, but you are able to get a simple bowl instead as well.  When finally deciding what flavors we wanted we ended up with Pistachio, cookie butter, and chocolate. The flavors went very well together. We watched in awe as the server sculpted a beautiful rose master piece in front of us. It turned out so pretty!

Fatso's.. hopefully Not-so Last Stand

Fatso’s Last Stand is a "somewhat" fast food restaurant that can also be found on the outskirts of Chicago. When it comes to hot-dogs, Chicago is the place you want to be. For those who may not know, the traditional Chicago dog includes an all-beef frank placed on a poppy seed bun, with a lot of toppings such as, white onions, bright green sweet pickle relish, a dill pickle spear, tomato slices, pickled peppers, and lastly yellow mustard. Out of the many, many, places in Chicago you can find a great hot dog we wound up at Fatso’s. Not only does Fatso’s offer great hot-dogs, they have their own spin on hamburgers. The burger is famously named “The Fatso Burger” and we couldn’t leave without trying both. When ordering you’ll also notice that all of their hot-dogs are served Chicago style, but you can add or remove all the toppings that you would like. Fatso’s has a few different types of hot-dogs to pick from in terms of the meat and style
