Wild Ginger Asian Bistro, wasn't such a wild place. We stumbled across it by searching for new restaurants in our area. We decided we would give this place a try because I'm an Asian cuisine fanatic.
Lancaster OH
When we arrived we noticed on the restaurant sign something a little strange.
The sign read:
Wild Ginger Asian Bistro
Ft Chinese, Japanese and Thai cuisine
Then below that it says
Wukong Express
We kind of brushed it off and went on inside. We decided we would go ahead and order, Seth had the California roll that came with your choice of soup or salad. He went with the soup, and decided on hot and sour.
I went with something a little off beat for me, and took a gamble. I decided on the Wild ginger glazed chicken served with rice.
We also decided to order a side of spring rolls, we were pretty excited to try everything because we seen so many beautiful pictures posted on their site.
First, Seth was brought out his soup.
The hot and sour was slightly spicy, but not hot. It's texture seemed to be kind of thick, not like a usual soup. They also had some veggies mixed in as well. Since soup isn't always the main attraction, we weren't really disappointed at this point. Then came our main courses, and spring rolls.
When they served us, I was almost instantly let down.
Seth was presented with a very large plate with three California rolls, and a small dab of Wasabi and ginger.
They placed my chicken in a deep bowl, and it was presented neatly. The presentation of both dishes were not bad. They seemed to have tried to make them look good. But for what turned me off, the chicken itself. When going to an "Asian bistro" you would assume ultimately you would not be served general Chinese style chicken. But in fact I was. As for what the sign read outside when entering the restaurant, I guess we should have taken this as our sign for what was to come.
I was expecting more of a fresh cut chicken breast, rather than something that seemed, or could have been left to sit in a dish all day. It was the chicken you would expect to find in a Chinese buffet, not served to you.
The veggies that were in my dish were simply okay. The ginger and sauce that accompanied the dish was also okay. It didn't have a bad flavor.
As for Seth's giant serving, it was sub par. The sushi rolls were lacking in crab meat. The rolls tasted okay combined with the Wasabi and ginger. The best thing about his dish was the ample amount you got with it, unlike most restaurants where you order sushi, you may be left feeling unsatisfied.
Then lastly on our list, the spring rolls. I was actually somewhat surprised with these. They seemed to be somewhat fresh and hot. They were served with sweet and sour, and sadly this was my favorite thing we tried.
A new part of our blog we may try doing is the Tasty Taste Test. The triple T. The tasty taste test is when we will decide on if we would go back to the restaurant, or never go back even if we were paid.
As for this tasty test, we would have to say we would unfortunately not go back. Saddening really, because we are really needing a good Asian or Japanese place near the Lancaster Ohio area.
Until next time, TASTY
