Pittsburgh, PA is not only a fun city to visit, but they have one of most unique traditions of many, the Picklesburgh pickle festival!! We are huge fans of pickles, and we had a blast on previous travels to Pittsburgh, so this event was perfect for us! In this particular post we are going to be telling you about all of our delicious encounters of Picklesburgh.
Picklesburgh has everything pickles! Name it and most likely they have it. Anything from pickle brine chicken, pickle soda, to even pickle moonshine, and pickle cupcakes. We were lucky enough to try a good handful of these pickled creations.
When we first arrived in Pittsburgh we kept our eyes peeled for the giant pickle floating in the sky! It was surely there floating above all of the delicious pickle stands and happy festival goers. It had a very fun feel being there because of the fact that it is all located on the famous Roberto Clement Bridge. Our first goal when we arrived was getting a one of a kind selfie with the giant Heinz pickle balloon! Because of the enormous crowd it was really challenging trying to get the perfect picture. Finally we sparked the idea of climbing the lowest part of the bridge structure that happened to be near us and it ended up being the perfect picture angle!!!
We finally decided to start some pickle tastings, and what better way to start things off than some Pickled Nachos! These nachos are whipped up by the Pittsburgh Pickle Co.
The nachos consist of tortilla chips topped with queso, jalapeno, banana peppers, and a nice bunch of tangy pickled onions. They were tasty and had the pickle tang we were hoping for. Some meat would have made them even better but either way they were still a good start to the day.
Pittsburgh Pickle Co. also jars and sells their own pickles. They also offer free samples of every different type of pickle they have at the stand. We could not resist buying a jar after tasting them all!
Next, we thought it would only be right to grab one of the most famous Picklesburgh dishes of all time. THE PICKLE BRINE CHICKEN SANDWICH... NEED WE SAY MORE?
Anyway.... A well known stand called Coop de Ville sells these crispy beauty's in different flavors and variations. The most ordered sandwich is most likely the Nashville Hot which consists of fresh pickle brine fried chicken breast dipped in Nashville hot sauce, and a giant portion of pickles all on one soft bun.
This sandwich was over the top delicious, crispy, juicy and full of flavor. The spiciness of the sauce and tanginess of the pickles made the sandwich so unique. The freshness of this sandwich was unbelievable! If you aren't a fan of spicy food you may want to try the plain Jane chicken sandwich and request pickle on it of course!
Coop de Ville also offers some hip cocktails. We had try at least one with the chicken sandwich! We went with the spicy melon water. It had a really unique flavor, unlike many drinks that we've tasted. Plus its topped with a beautiful watermelon radish, who knew these were a thing?
The next dish we tried actually was not pickle flavored but it was still very good. We were lucky enough to get a nice hot order of Gosia's Pierogies! They have many different types of pierogies on the menu such as sauerkraut and feta.
We unfortunately didn't make it in time to get in on the more popular flavors but we did get to try the cheese and potato stuffed pierogies which were very good. You have the option to add grilled onions which was no question for us!!! The pastry of these pierogies was nice and flaky and the onions were a nice touch. We wish we would have made it in time to try all of the pierogies, but we were definitely satisfied with what we were able to get.
Eventually our sweet tooth kicked in and we just had to grab a pickle themed dessert. We headed up the bridge to Patti's Pastries for something we had planned on our taste list all along....
We thought it was time for another unique cocktail. We made a quick stop at Mercato to try the watermelon mojito! Just the name alone really explains it. It really tasted like a watermelon flavored mojito! It was a very good and clever drink.
What would going to Picklesburgh be without getting a giant pickle to munch on as you walk across the Roberto Clemente Bridge? The most appealing pickles we saw were also at Mercato. We kept it simple and bought one dill pickle. We must say that pickles really do taste better in Picklesburgh!
Not only is Picklesburgh a fun experience, but they have something for everyone. If pickle is not your cup of tea, NO PROBLEM! There is plenty of other delicious options as well. We had a blast and we hope everyone else who visits Picklesburgh does too!
Until next time, this has been another Tasty Tidbitt review!!!!

The DILLicious Cupcake! Does this cupcake taste like pickle?? YES! IT DOES! This giant cupcake is loaded with white icing that has pickle bits mixed into it, and they also put a nice pickle coin on top if you want a little extra pickle flavor. You would typically think that pickle flavor would not fit with a cupcake, but it really does. They put the perfect amount of pickle in it without overpowering the sweetness of the cupcake. Another great thing about this cupcake is they did not overdo the sweetness either, so it was a perfect balance. The icing was nice and light so it didn't feel like a straight mouthful of sugar. Hats off to Patti's Pastries!
